Will is getting a little tougher to put down lately. It’s not that he doesn’t fall asleep easily (he usually does just fine), it’s just that he wakes up either once we put him in the crib or after 30-40 minutes and then can’t put himself back to sleep so he’ll cry for us to help. We’ve been “rescuing” him pretty soon after he wakes up as we don’t want his cries to wake Noah up, but then if we actually pick him up he’ll wake up just enough that we’ll have to start the whole process over again. The other night we dealt with the waking up every 40 minute thing from 9 until after midnight when we finally put him in the swing and Pete slept downstairs with him.

I read online that we need to be more consistent with both nap times and bed time and that our bedtime is probably much too late. It seems most babies go to bed by 7:00pm and we usually wait until 8:30/9:00pm.  He seems like he’s really awake and hyper, but he’s probably overtired.

I think we’re going to start sleep training soon as he seems to have forgotten how to suck his thumb. I remember having to do cry it out with Noah around this age when he was waking up after rolling onto his back. Last night we let Will cry for a few minutes straight and he did end up putting himself back to sleep and eventually slept from 11:30-7:30ish. Still not enough nighttime sleep, especially after a rough day of quick naps at daycare.

We were so spoiled that Will was such a great sleeper the last month or more. Then a couple bad nights of no sleep happen and you wonder how anyone can function on so little sleep. We forgot that he’s still a baby and babies are ever changing and going through “phases”. Let’s hope this phase is quick and we get our champion sleeper back!
