we just had our 4 month wellness checkup and noah weighed 11 lbs. 6.1 oz. (<1st percentile), measured 24 inches long (16th percentile) and his head circumference was 39.5 (not sure on percentile).  even though noah seems content almost all the time and is happy and meeting all developmental milestones, the pediatrician recommended we get more calories into noah, whether by supplementing with expressed breast milk or formula.  he also said we can go ahead and start feeding him some solids – cereals and fruit first.  it seems noah is just a passive little thing and doesn’t always give cues that he is hungry.  i usually feed him every 2-3 hours, but i guess i will have to make more of an effort to feed as often as possible and for as long as possible every day.

pete and i got into our first real big fight as a married couple after this appointment.  hell, it’s our first real big fight PERIOD.  he wants to start formula right away and i want to try just increasing his feeds each day.  i spoke with a la leche league woman and also called my friend, rachel, that has breastfed all 3 of her kids – they both recommended that i ask pete for a week to try it my way and if noah still isn’t gaining weight properly we can then discuss introducing more (formula, expressed milk, solids, etc.) into his diet.

noah was perfect otherwise and took the shots like a champ (a champ that cried hysterically throughout the four – yes, FOUR – shots).  i nursed him for a bit afterward to calm him down (whilst also crying my eyes out).  ah, motherhood.

here is the little man after his shots fast asleep in his car seat:
