Sleeping: thanks to the magic merlin sleep suit, you are back to sleeping through the night, usually at least 8 hours straight before waking up to nurse, and then going back down for another few hours. you always sleep on your back wearing your suit. you are currently doing two naps a day, a quick nap around 10/10:30AM for 40-60 minutes and then a second nap around 2/2:30PM for 2-2.5 hours. you and your brother are usually asleep at the same time for at least an hour, which is a nice little break for me! you are usually very easy to put down at nap time – we zip you into your suit, give you a pacifier and then place you in your crib awake and you fall asleep within a minute. putting you down at night is hit or miss – sometimes you are easy and your dad can put you down with no problem, but sometimes you are WAY too tired and cry and cry until I come upstairs and nurse you to calm you down.
Eating: you LOVE your “solid” food! your favorites seem to be anything with banana in it, peas, pumpkin apple, and sweet potato/apricot. you are eating 3 “solid” meals a day and are currently eating at least 4 oz at each meal, sometimes up to 6 oz! you are still nursing well on the right side and have pretty much given up on the left side unless it’s early morning or after naps. when we are together you mostly nurse with an occasional bottle of formula here and there – right now you are nursing an average of 4-5 times a day. when we are apart you are mostly bottle fed with formula (90/10 split of formula/breast milk). i am not pumping as often at work anymore, which is definitely affecting my milk supply. hopefully being home with you on the in between days and weekend will help keep my milk supply up. you definitely don’t seem ready to wean completely off the breast quite yet. stay tuned for more adventurous eating this month! just tried giving you a mum mum and i think you loved it, though i was a little worried the pieces you were biting off were too big!
Teeth: you have your two bottom front teeth in! your bottom front left tooth made its appearance first, with the bottom front right tooth making its appearance just a few short days later! i think your top front teeth are getting ready to pop through. we’ll have to try a frozen bagel with you to see if you like the feel of that on your gums.
Development and play: you are rolling both ways now, and moving around a ton during playtime in your crib. we definitely cannot leave you alone in a room as you will roll and roll and roll until you are on the hardwood floor. you are sitting much better, though still not quite ready to sit without assistance – i think we will have much more freedom once you can sit on your own! you love to bang the rattle on the highchair tray and you love dropping toys from the tray and hearing the sound as it hits the floor. you like being on your tummy just as much as you like being on your back. just like your brother, you love your time in the jumperoo and the exersaucer! you haven’t really started to jump yet, but i think when you figure that out you will have even more fun!
Temperament: you are still such an easy going baby – the doctor said it right when he said that you sure are a happy soul. i’d say that more than 95% of the time you are smiling, laughing, cooing, and calm. you literally only get fussy when you are tired. as long as you are well rested you don’t even fuss if you are hungry! i had to do daycare drop off last week for the first time and you started to cry as i walked away from you so i think separation anxiety is upon us. also, auntie deede (Dorothy) came to visit a couple weeks ago and when you first saw her you gave a big old pouty sad face like you were going to cry – stranger anxiety maybe? the teachers at daycare still adore you and they say they can tell that you have an older brother around as you are totally fine with the other babies pulling on you and “wrestling” – you love to wrestle with a kid twice your size at school and he is always whining about it.
Random: you still like bath time and now it’s definitely an every night occurrence since you are the MESSIEST eater ever. you still nap fairly well in the carrier. you enjoy the car seat and the stroller. you love watching your brother and holding his hand. you giggle when i kiss your neck and nothing makes me smile more than hearing that belly laugh of yours! you have started to bite while nursing and boy is that painful – amazingly your brother never did that. you love to scream and now you and your brother scream at each other during mealtime.
i just love you so much!
