Noah’s 6 month wellness visit was this past Friday. He was weighed (14 lbs 1.3 oz = 1st percentile) and they measured his height (26.5 inches = 44th percentile), though the doctor said the height may have been a little off as it’s hard to accurately measure the height on a wiggly baby (the same can be said of the weight as well, in my opinion!). Noah’s head grew a bit as well. The doctor wasn’t all that concerned with the weight as Noah is clearly growing, but he did ask us to come back in two months to check his weight again. The kid was super busy at the appointment, moving his arms and legs a mile a minute, and making the pediatrician’s job tough as he attempted to listen to Noah’s lungs, check the ears, eyes, throat, etc. The doctor said something really funny, too. He said, “well, no moss will grow on that one, huh?” He said that Noah is constantly burning calories if he moves like that all day long (which he does).
Dr. Cohen wants us to start feeding Noah three solid meals a day and said he’d like to also see Noah drink at least 16 oz of milk daily. What a relief! I had read somewhere that at this age he should be drinking 30-40 oz of milk a day and I had no idea how on earth we’d get that much into him if he maxes out at 5 oz each serving! I have been feeling lately like all I do all day is try to get Noah to eat. I asked the doctor if solids or liquids would be better if we ran out of time during the day and he said that solids would be best and chase with some milk. We should wait on eggs, cow products, fish, nuts, peanut butter, and honey.
I asked if we need to clean Noah’s teeth and, contrary to what the dentist office told me, he said no; Noah should go see the dentist at 2-3 years old, depending on how many teeth he has by then.
We shouldn’t move Noah to his convertible car seat at least for another four months.
We should start offering Noah some water or milk in sippy cups to transition him off of the bottle.
