I have been getting behind in blog posts during the third trimester! The pregnancy lately has been feeling pretty uneventful with the exception of occasional aches and pains (mainly from sitting too long at work) and waking intermittently throughout the night due to heartburn, hot flashes (I wake up and I am SO hot and sweaty), or having to pee.
I’ve been going to prenatal yoga once a week for the last few weeks and I really look forward to it and feel so good and stretched afterward. Just wish it was offered more than once per week. There is only one other pregnant mama there and she is the same number of weeks as I am. Other than yoga I have been trying to walk 4-5 times per week around the neighborhood. Pete will often go out with me and the dog and then he and Charlie will sprint a loop and catch up to me, and then walk a bit and then go off for another loop without the dog. It’s been great exercise for all of us. Haven’t gone to swim laps at the high school yet – maybe in June on the weekends I can get into that??
We had the baby shower on May 5th and it was so much fun. The girls really did a nice job planning and executing the whole thing – the BBQ from Blue Ribbon was delicious, the company and games were wonderful, the decorations were perfect, the cakes were SO good and we got a lot of great baby stuff! We had family and a couple friends over afterward for Mexican food where we went through all of the gifts and kept track of who had given us what.
Saw the doctor for my 32 week checkup on 5/7. I started feeling a little off on the walk down – probably due to the long busy weekend of baby shower, family in town, lack of sleep, etc. Was feeling slightly overheated, dizzy and sour stomach. Discovered that I had gained 6 lbs since last appointment two weeks ago. The patient room I was in was ridiculously HOT. All these factors combined set me off and I started crying in front of the doctor! She was so understanding and helped me calm down. There was a new nurse that took my vitals and she said that my blood pressure was like 100/70 (which is not common for me); I asked the usual nurse, Kelly, if she could re-check just to be safe. She got 124/78 which is much more like how it usually is.
Weight 153 1/2 lbs
Baby HR – low 140s
Here are the questions I asked the doctor:
Am I gaining too much weight? No, doctor said I am still right on track. She said the 6lb weight gain in 2 weeks’ time is most likely fluid retention and not to worry. Increase protein and limit carbohydrates.
How much weight should I expect to gain from now until delivery? Probably between 6-10 lbs.
What is my due date? Am I measuring on time? early? late? Measuring on time – due date is still 6/29/12.
What is your & other MGH OB’s philosophies on birth (i.e. introducing medical intervention versus allowing labor to happen on its own, when a c-section is recommended) *I’d like to avoid induction and c-section unless it is medically necessary – and she agrees with this.
Is there anything I should be doing in the next 8 weeks (i.e. counting kicks)? Only count kicks if you are concerned about difference in movement. Otherwise, don’t feel like you have to do everything before baby comes. Rest up.
When should I get the whopping cough vaccine as my doctor only gave me a TD shot back in August? Yes, I should alert the NP or OB post-delivery and I can get the vaccine right in the hospital.
Can husband be vaccinated at the hospital, too, even if he is not a MGH patient? No, he needs to get vaccinated at his own doctor’s office.
